Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad has appealed the Sikkimese from all walks of life to observe ‘Candlelight Vigil’ on 5th April 2020 at 9 pm as called upon by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his video message telecasted today morning at 0900 hrs.

“Nine minutes candlelight vigil and lighting of Diyas at 9 pm on April 5 as called upon by Hon’ble Prime Minister has a deeper significance in our culture as we consider this collective action as a means to dispel the darkness spread by the Coronavirus pandemic. It is a powerful way to orient ourselves towards hope and light when the entire humanity is in the state of uncertainty. As a country with 1.3 billion powerful souls, our collective resolve to fight this global pandemic will instil confidence and hope for the poor who are the most severely affected segment of our population due to nationwide lockdown.

We must also observe this vigil as a manifestation of our solidarity towards our frontline warriors who are putting themselves in the forefront of national duty at these difficult times against all odds and circumstances
