Home Voting in Gangtok District
Gangtok, April 6 (IPR): On the first day of Home Voting, a total of 265 home voters cast their votes through postal ballots within the district yesterday.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced the "Vote-from-Home" (VfH) option through postal ballots, specifically targeting two distinct voter groups: individuals aged 85 years and older, and persons with disabilities (PwD) with a minimum disability rating of 40 percent.
This proactive initiative by the ECI aims to enhance inclusivity within the electoral process and ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise their inherent right to vote. This approach not only empowers individuals facing physical limitations or advanced age to participate in the electoral process but also reaffirms the commitment to uphold democratic principles of representation and inclusion.
Moreover, it assures that the voices and preferences of these individuals are properly acknowledged and integrated into the electoral results.
