Hinguwa Fest Marks 10th Foundation Day of Sikkim Government Science College Chakung
Soreng, May 5 (IPR): Hinguwa Fest, commemorating the 10th Foundation Day of Sikkim Government Science College Chakung, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the college auditorium. The theme for this year’s fest was “Viksit Chakung.”
The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Lok Sabha MP Dr Indra Hang Subba.
In his address, Dr Indra Hang Subba emphasised the importance of humanity, highlighting how cooperation and coordination distinguish human society. He spoke extensively on the role of youth in scientific research and politics, the importance of the rule of law, and the role of resources in development. Stressing that research and technology are central to human progress, he also touched upon the National Education Policy and the historical evolution of Sikkim. He urged students and citizens alike to contribute efficiently toward making the state self-reliant. His address was followed by an interactive session with students.
Principal Dr Iyatta M Upreti presented an overview of the college’s journey, highlighting its growth, student achievements, and initiatives such as the Professor of Practice (POP) programme that connects the institution with the local community.
The celebration also featured the release of the annual college newsletter, “Sikkim Chronicles,” along with a special lecture by Dr Indra Hang Subba on the Role of Youth in Scientific Research and Politics.
Winners from various categories—including Literary, Cultural, Indoor, and Outdoor sections—were felicitated with trophies, certificates, and medals.
Later, Dr Indra Hang Subba inspected various departments, laboratories, and the college library. On the occasion, he extended support under MPLADS by providing two Smart Boards, ten computers, and financial assistance amounting to ₹5 lakh for the institution’s development.
The event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests and officials, including Panchayat President and members, APS to HCM (Soreng) Mr Eras Lucksom, OSD to MP (LS) Mr Nosang Limboo, Vice Principal Mr Zigmee Dorjee Bhutia, Dean Mr Suman Tamang, Heads of Departments, faculty members, staff, and students.
