Gyalshing District Conducts District-Level Mock Drill on Earthquake and Landslides
Gyalshing,December 12 (IPR):
A District Level Mock Drill on earthquake and Landslides was organised by Gyalshing District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA)in coordination with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SSB 72Bn & SSB 36Bn and other various Departments of the district,today.
The simulation of an earthquake and landslides disaster scenario at various locations across surrounding areas of Gyalshing district was operated by DDMA Gyalshing.
The mock drill was conducted under the supervision of Ms Rajani Sharma Incident commander-cum-ADC HQ along-with Ms KSC Tongden Lepcha Observer-cum-ACE Power Department,Mr Ganesh Kumar Rai Site Incident Commander-cum-DPO, Mr Ram Hang Subba RTO, Mr Vivek Kumar Deputy commandant NDRF,HODs and officials from various departments .
The mock drill was a simulation scenario of an earthquake measuring 6.2 richter scale and Landslides at Sakyong road.The objective of the drill exercise was to make a logical and effective decisions while managing and coordinating during the time of disaster.
The Mock Drill commenced with the sound of an emergency siren at various location points.
Thereon, a real-time scenario was established at GNP building at Gyalshing bazar at 10:45AM where GNP building got collapsed and 4 people (Male)trapped inside were safely rescued and evacuated.
A landslide scenario was created at Sakyong road where the recused team was taken-up to prepare on how the road blockage needs to be cleared, how to rescue and evacuate people safely. It was reported that a passenger vehicle met an accident with two passengers getting trapped inside.
The restoration of road was completed at 12:30PM and passengers were rescued and were taken to District hospital Gyalshing.
The search and rescue situation was conducted with team of NDRF , Police Deptt, SSB 72 Bn and 36Bn , Forest department led by the side Incident Commander DPO Gyalshing .
Further, ADC along with HODs from various departments were assembled at District Disaster office conference hall,where site incident commander Mr Ganesh Kumar Rai briefed the day scenario regarding the mock drill and the rescue and relief operation conducted at Gyalshing.
