Gyalshing District Conducts District-Level Committee Meeting on Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP-II)
Gyalshing, August 17 (IPR): A meeting of the District Level Committee (DLC) for the implementation and monitoring of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP-II) was held today at the NIC Conference Hall, Rabdentse, Gyalshing.
The meeting was chaired by the District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa, and attended by ADC Gyalshing and Nodal Officer for VVP-II, Mr Suresh Rai; Mr Rajesh Thapa, CEO Education; Ms Panzomla Bhutia, Deputy Director, Horticulture; Mr Tristan Bhutia, Assistant Engineer (Health); and representatives from the Tourism, Sikkim Youth Affairs (SYA) and other line departments.
The meeting focused on strengthening developmental initiatives and ensuring effective implementation and monitoring of VVP-II in the five identified villages of Gyalshing District.
ADC Mr Suresh Rai, briefed the committee on the various areas of intervention under VVP-II, with emphasis on holistic, inclusive and sustainable development of the identified villages. The programme seeks to promote economic growth through sustainable livelihood opportunities, strengthening of local economic activities, and active participation of cooperatives and local communities.
Key areas discussed included livelihood generation, road connectivity, village infrastructure, health facilities, electrification, television and telecommunication connectivity, tourism promotion, cultural activities and outreach initiatives.
The committee also deliberated on harnessing the tourism potential of the identified villages and developing diverse and sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities. Emphasis was laid on the development, skilling and capacity building of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), including Cooperatives, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and other community institutions through gap-funding support.
The committee stressed the importance of promoting cluster-based and community-based projects rather than individual projects under VVP-II to ensure wider community participation and sustainable outcomes.
ADC Gyalshing further briefed the committee on the preparation of Action Plans and the proposal submission process under the programme. He also informed the house to submit the project by 24 th of August and form a nodal officer for the project.
Addressing the gathering, District Collector Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among all concerned departments and stakeholders for the effective implementation of VVP-II. He stressed the need to identify interventions based on local requirements and ensure that developmental initiatives translate into tangible and sustainable benefits for the people of the identified villages.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all departments and stakeholders to work in close coordination for the successful implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme and to ensure inclusive, sustainable and holistic development of the identified villages in Gyalshing District.
