Grand Celebration of 50 Years of Statehood of Sikkim
Gangtok, May 29 (IPR): The Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi virtually attended the Golden Jubilee of Statehood Celebration here at Paljor Stadium Gangtok today, amidst a jubilant Sikkimese crowd waving the Tricolour, the national flag of India, displaying a powerful act of patriotism and national pride.
The Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang joined in the grand celebration accompanied by Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Dr Indra Hang Subba and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Mr DT Lepcha.
The Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, welcoming and addressing the key note, extended heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for gracing the historic occasion with his esteemed virtual presence from Bagdogra, on behalf of the people of Sikkim. Thanking the Prime Minister for his continued support and blessings, he also conveyed heartiest congratulations to the Prime Minister and the armed forces on the successful execution of Operation Sindoor. Following the keynote address of the Chief Minister, a commemorative ₹50 coin and Commemorative stamp were released by Governor Mr Om Prakash Mathur, on behalf of the Prime Minister, to mark the occassion.

Virtually greeting the Sikkimese people on the historic occasion of the state’s golden jubilee of statehood in Nepali, one of the official languages and the lingua franca of the state, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi expressed his regret for being unable to be present in person with Sikkim, due to unavoidabe and unfavorable weather conditions.In his address, the Prime Minister extended warm congratulations and commended Sikkim’s remarkable progress reflecting on the State’s transformation in sustainable development, cultural unity, ecological preservation, and grassroots governance.

The Celebration moved forward with the virtual inauguration of various infrastucture projects in Sikkim by the Prime Minister. The inaugurated projects are District Hospital Namchi District, Swarna Jayanti Maitreya Manjari Project at Ridge Park Gangtok District, Passenger Ropeway at Sangachoeling at Pelling Gyalshing District, Unveiling of the Statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udhyan at Sangkhola Gangtok District, andGaushala at Mamring, Pakyong District.

The Celebration also included virtual foundation stone laying of various projects in the State by the Prime Minister. The projects are Swarna Jayanti Convention Centre at Namli Gangtok District, Swarna Jayanti Sports and Culture Complex Gangtok District, Skywalk Project at Bhaley Dhunga at Yangyang Namchi District, Nathula Border Experience Gangtok District, Conversion of Singshore Bridge as Glass Skywalk Bridge Uttarey Gyalshing District, Working Women's Hostel Gangtok District, and District Hospital Pakyong District.

The grand celebration concluded with the Paljor Stadium transforming into a kaleidoscope of colours, as students, artists, and Self-Help Group (SHG) members came together to deliver a breathtaking cultural performance. The historic event showcased the rich cultural integration of Sikkim, with the other parts of the nation, with mesmerising performances that captivated the audience.
