Government Junior High School, Timbrong Observes World Environment Day
Timbrong, June 5: Government Junior High School, Timbrong observed World Environment Day with various activities held in and around the school premises.
Mr. Til Hang Limboo, Under Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Government of Sikkim, and Advisor to the PTA, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by SMC Advisors Mr. Rup Lal Limboo and Mr. Dawzang Lepcha, members of the School Management Committee (SMC), parents, teachers, and students.
In the first phase of the programme, the Chief Guest and other guests were welcomed with floral bouquets. The Headmistress, Ms. Choden Bhutia, delivered the welcome address. Mr. Ladup Lepcha sensitised the parents on the harmful effects of tobacco and smoking. Mrs. Mercy Limboo briefed the parents and students on the Mindfulness Programme being conducted in the school.
Mrs. Rojeena Rai, In-charge of the Eco Club, presented a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the school's Eco Club. Mrs. Roshni Subba, In-charge of Organic Agriculture, announced the results of the Inter-Class Vertical Garden Maintenance Competition for the academic session 2025 and prizes were distributed to the winning classes by the Chief Guest.
The Headmistress also addressed the gathering on environmental conservation and informed the SMC members and parents about the school's ongoing and upcoming activities. She appealed to all stakeholders to spare time to discuss school-related issues during SHG meetings, club meetings, and other community gatherings.
The students presented rhymes and staged a skit on environmental conservation. The first phase of the programme concluded with an environmental conservation pledge taken by all participants, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Muna Hangma Limboo. The programme was anchored by Mr. B. B. Rai.
In the second phase, the Chief Guest, guests, SMC members, parents, teachers, and students participated in the planting of paddy seedlings. They also planted orange saplings and carried out a mass cleanliness drive within and around the school premises.
