Gyalshing August 8 (IPR): The Constituency-level 78th Independence Day celebrations in Yuksam reached its 8th day with two thrilling pre-quarterfinal football matches. Among the highlights of the day was Gitang FC triumphed in the pre-quarterfinal securing their place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
The event being held at Thikoong Mensolong Government Senior Secondary School, Yuksam under Gyalshing district was graced as Chief Guest by Mr. Purak Singh Subba Social worker and proprietor of Yuma Fuel, Darap. He was accompanied by several prominent figures, Mr Basant Tamang former Chairman, Mr. Mangal Rai Panchayat President of Rimbi-Timbrong GPU, Mr. Gyalpo Lepcha Social worker, Dr. Pranisha Chettri of Tashiding Veterinary Centre, Mr. Deepan Pradhan Food Inspector, Mr. Roshan Kharga Principal-In-Charge of Thikoong Mensolong Government Senior Secondary School Yuksam along with Gram Panchayats and staff from Rimbi-Timbrong GPU, medical staff from Yuksam PHC, local dignitaries, teachers, students, and local gentry.
The day's events commenced with a warm welcome address and the oath of the Swachhata Pledge by Ds Limboo, Zilla Adakshya of Gyalshing. Swachhata pledge, an initiative by the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC), emphasizes the importance of environmental conservation, aligning with the broader goals of the ongoing I-day celebrations.
In his brief address, Mr Purak Singh Subba congratulated the Yuksam-Tashiding Constituency-level Independence Day Celebration Committee for their exceptional efforts in organizing such a grand event. He particularly commended the IDCC for integrating educational and environmentally focused activities alongside the much-anticipated football and cultural programmes.
The event also featured cultural performances by school students.
The day's events concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Budha Hang Subba, former Zilla Upa-Adakshya.
