Futsal and cultural presentations mark day five of Pang-Lhabsol (Neysol) fest at Yuksam
Gyalshing, August 25 (IPR): The ongoing eight-day Pang-Lhabsol (Neysol) Festival at Norbugang, Yuksam, reached its fifth day today with a series of futsal matches and vibrant cultural presentations. The festival is being celebrated from August 21 to 28.
Advisor to the State Medicinal Plants Board, Mr NB Limboo, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. DFO (T), Gyalshing, Mr Jigme Tsewang Sharnngoe, DFO, Social Forestry Mr Arun Kumar Gurung, and BDO Yuksam Mr Sanman Subba, attended the programme as Guests of Honour.
The event was also attended by Deputy Director, Education, Mr Tashi Wangyal Bhutia, Range Officer (T), Gyalshing, Palchen Bhutia, Block Officer (T), Yuksam, Thutop Bhutia, Social Welfare Inspector Milan Limboo, officials and staff of the Forest Department; members of Nawadeep Club, staff from SBS Yuksam, staff from Agriculture & Horticulture Department Yuksam BAC, Gram Panchayat members from various GPUs, and local dignitaries.
The Pang-Lhabsol (Neysol) Festival is being organised by the Pang-Lhabsol (Neysol) Celebration Committee, Yuksam, under the patronage of Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister-cum-Area MLA Mr Tshering T Bhutia, with support from the Khangchendzonga National Park Division, Forest & Environment Department, and Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim.
Pang-Lhabsol is one of Sikkim’s prominent festivals, during which people offer special prayers to Mount Khangchendzonga, revered as the guardian deity of the State. Special prayers are traditionally offered for the safety, peace and well-being of Sikkim and its people. Pang-Lhabsol falls on August 28 this year and will be observed as a State holiday.
As part of the day’s sporting activities, four pre-quarter-final matches of the five-a-side futsal tournament as part of the Pang-Lhabsol festival celebration were played.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest NB Limboo expressed happiness at witnessing the vibrant celebration and encouraged the younger generation to preserve and promote Sikkim’s unique cultural and ethnic traditions. He said that such festivals provide an important platform for young people to showcase and hone their sporting and cultural talents. He further expressed hope that events of this nature would help nurture emerging talent while contributing to the promotion of the region and enhancing its tourism potential.
The day also featured engaging cultural presentations by school students and local cultural troupes, adding colour and vibrancy to the festival celebrations.
