Free Cataract Screening Camp for Senior Citizens reaches Mangan
Mangan, June 23 (IPR):
The Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, in coordination with Health & Family Welfare Department and Greater Lions Eye Hospital Siliguri organised a Free Cataract Screening and Surgery Camp for senior citizens at Mangan Nagar Panchayat Hall today. The initiative is part of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana of the Government of India.
The screening camp commenced with the welcome speech delivered by Inspector (WCSC&DWD), Mr Ongdup Bhutia. He gave a brief overview of the event, highlighting the importance of the free cataract screening and surgery camp. He encouraged all senior citizens to take full advantage of the services offered and expressed hope that such initiatives would greatly benefit the elderly in the community.
Following the welcome address, eye specialists Ms Puja Biswas, Ms Ruksana Begam, Ms Rani Karmarkar, Ms Shraboni Tudu along with Manager Mr Devi Raj Ghatani from Greater Lions Eye Hospital, Siliguri, were warmly welcomed by Deputy Director-cum-CDPO Ms Sonam Laden Lachungpa and SWO Ms Choden Bhutia.
As part of the programme, comprehensive eye check ups were conducted for senior citizens by the team of experienced doctors. The medical examinations aimed to identify cases requiring cataract surgery and provide necessary guidance and support to the beneficiaries.
A total of 183 OPD patients were examined during the camp, out of which 54 patients were identified with cataract.
Later, a vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Ongdup Bhutia, who expressed his gratitude to all the doctors and participants for their valuable presence and support in making the event a success.
