Pakyong, May 19 (IPR): The Fisheries Department of Pakyong District carried out an intensive field monitoring drive to review the progress of projects being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The inspection was led by the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Ms Gauri Mukhia accompanied by the Block Officer, Fisheries Guard, and Office Assistant. The team visited Mangthang, Duga, and Kamerey to monitor the ongoing works of Biofloc fish farming units, each with a unit cost of ₹7.50 lakh. These units are being developed with 60% subsidy support from the department, aimed at promoting modern and sustainable aquaculture practices. Additionally, the officials inspected the construction of a fish kiosk at Kamerey, valued at ₹10 lakh, also subsidised at 60% under the same scheme. The kiosk is expected to enhance market access and direct fish sales for local farmers, improving their income and promoting hygienic fish marketing infrastructure. During the visit, the Assistant Director also inspected the fisheries check posts at Rangpo, where she reviewed the fish import data, revenue collection records and other regulatory parameters to ensure compliance with state norms and safeguard the interests of local fish farmers. The department is supporting fish farmers through robust implementation of PMMSY, continuous field engagement and strengthening fisheries infrastructure across the district.
