First Round of Literature Competition for 211th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Commences at Soreng

The first round of the Literature Competition under the Open Poem Competition segment for the upcoming 211th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration commenced today at the Auditorium Hall, Don Bosco School, Malbasey, Soreng. The event was organised by the Literature Committee of the 211th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee and was graced by Additional District Collector (ADC-II) Mr Santosh Kumar Allay.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Santosh Kumar Allay briefed the audience on the historical journey of the Ramayan and its introduction to the hill regions of Darjeeling and Sikkim. He spoke about the significance of Bhanu Jayanti celebrations in Darjeeling and highlighted that the observance of Bhanu Jayanti in Sikkim dates back to the year 1924. He also acknowledged and appreciated the notable contributions of former Chief Minister Mr Nar Bahadur Bhandari, under whose leadership the celebration of Bhanu Jayanti gained prominence during his tenure.
Vice Chairman of the Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS) and esteemed member of the organising committee, Mr CP Sharma, addressed the gathering and briefed about the objectives of the Open Poem Competition. He highlighted that the primary aim of the competition is to nurture and encourage literary creativity among poets from across Soreng District. He further emphasised that the initiative is designed to provide a platform for both established senior poets and emerging young talents to express their poetic vision and contribute to the literary and cultural fabric of the region.
It is noteworthy that a total of 19 participants took part in the first round of the competition. The selected poets from this round will proceed to the final round, which is scheduled to be held on 10th July. Certificates were distributed to the Participants.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries including ADC (Development) Mr Gaayas Pega, Additional Director (AH&VS) Dr Kishore Thapa, OSD (Excise Department) Mr Reman Thapa, along with members from Pari Prakashan, the Retired Employees Association, and officers and officials from various line departments.
