Final Day of New Mindrolling Monastery Inauguration Marks at Tumlong

The grand inauguration of the Zangdok Palri “Guru Rinpoche Gyi Shingkham” often referred to as the heavenly abode at the New Mindrolling Monastery in Tumlong concluded today with a momentous ceremony. The Chief Minister of Sikkim Mr Prem Singh Tamang graced the event as the chief guest, marking the final day of the three-day celebration. The occasion drew huge crowd of monks, devotees and dignitaries from across the region.
The event was further elevated by the presence of distinguished spiritual leaders, including Kyabje Khenchen Rinpoche, Kyabje Khochhen Rinpoche, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche. Also in attendance were Mr Sikyong Penpa Tsering (Central Tibetan Administration), Minister for Ecclesiastical Department Mr Sonam Lama, Mr Kunga Nima (Advisor to the Chief Minister), Minister for Social Welfare Department Mr Samdup Lepcha, Minister for Forest Department Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Mr Thenlay Tshering Bhutia (MLA, Kabi-Lungchok) and Mr Anant Jain (IAS) DC Mangan
The day began with the sacred Rabney (consecration ritual), led by Kyabje Khenchen Rinpoche, who blessed the monastery’s prayer hall and its sacred artefacts. The occasion had chanting of prayers, accompanied by the sounds of traditional instruments, creating an atmosphere of spiritual reverence.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister praised the establishment of the New Mindrolling Monastery as a significant milestone for Sikkim. “This monastery will serve as a beacon of peace and spiritual enlightenment. It is not only a place of worship but also a centre for cultural preservation and community development,” he said. The Chief Minister also assured continued support for initiatives that uphold Sikkim’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
The final day of the inauguration featured traditional mask dances symbolising the triumph of wisdom and compassion.
The New Mindrolling Monastery stands as an architectural marvel with a grand prayer hall adorned with intricate murals and statues of Guru Rinpoche and various Bodhisattvas. The complex also includes a meditation centre, a library housing rare Buddhist scriptures and residential quarters for monks, making it a comprehensive hub for spiritual and cultural activities.
In his closing remarks, His Eminence expressed deep gratitude to the local community, the government and the donors who contributed to the monastery’s establishment. “This monastery will serve as a refuge for those seeking spiritual guidance and as a centre for learning and cultural preservation.
The inauguration marks a new chapter for Tumlong, as the monastery is expected to draw pilgrims and tourists, enhancing spiritual tourism and contributing to the local economy.
As the ceremony concluded, the monastery’s doors were officially opened to the public, symbolising its mission to serve as a centre of peace, learning and unity for generations to come.
