Field-Based Training on Dragon Fruit Cultivation Conducted at Tsalamthang

Pakyong, March 5 (IPR): A field-based training on scientific and profitable dragon fruit cultivation, along with an exposure visit for farmers, was organised by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Pakyong, at the Sikkim Dragon Fruit Farm located at Tsalamthang today.
The programme was attended by Additional Director-cum-Project Director ATMA, Mr Tshering Chophel Bhutia; Deputy Project Director ATMA, Mrs Rebecca Gurung; Deputy Director, Mrs Sangita Basnett, along with Agricultural Development Officers (ADOs), Horticulture Development Officers (HDOs), Block Technology Managers (BTMs), Assistant Technology Managers (ATMs), and other field functionaries of the department. Kharga Bahadur Rizal attended the programme as the chief guest.
The programme began with an introductory remark and welcome address by Deputy Project Director ATMA, Rebecca Gurung, who outlined the objectives of the programme and spoke on the promotion of dragon fruit cultivation among farmers.
A technical session was conducted by Hemant Rizal, owner of the Sikkim Dragon Fruit Farm, who explained cultivation practices, crop management, planting techniques and the economic aspects of dragon fruit farming.
Deputy Director Sangita Basnett also addressed the gathering and spoke on the adoption of horticultural crops by farmers.
The keynote address was delivered by Additional Director-cum-Project Director ATMA, Tshering Chophel Bhutia, who spoke on crop diversification and the use of modern farming techniques in agriculture.
A video presentation on dragon fruit cultivation was also screened during the programme.
The programme concluded with a field visit and demonstration at the farm, where farmers were shown cultivation practices and management techniques related to dragon fruit farming. Farmers and departmental field functionaries took part in the interaction during the session.
