Expenditure Observers for Gangtok district conduct Final Account Reconciliation Meeting
Gangtok, June 28 (IPR): The Final Account Reconciliation Meeting under Gangtok district for General Elections 2024 was conducted here at the Conference hall of Gangtok Zilla Bhawan today.
The meeting had the presence of Mr S Sundaresan, IRS (IT), Mr J Premanand, IRS (IT) and Mr Prasoon Kabra, IRS (IT), Expenditure Observers (EOs) for Gangtok district, Mr Tushar G Nikhare District Election Officer (DEO) Gangtok-cum-District Collector Gangtok, Mr Milan Rai ADC (HQ) Gangtok, Mr GL Meena SDM (HQ) Gangtok, Mr Roshan Subba SDM Gangtok, Assistant Election Observers (AEOs) and representatives of Political parties.
The objective of the meeting was to apprise the political parties about the timely submission of their expenditure report for the 2024 General Elections to Election Observers and the DEO for transparency and fairness during the election campaign. According to Election Commission of India guidelines, a candidate must submit their expenditure report to a competent authority within 30 days of the declaration of election results. By monitoring election expenditures, the ECI helps to prevent candidates and political parties from using their wealth to influence the outcome of elections.
The Expenditure Observers extended their congratulations to everyone for the peaceful conduct of the election process in Sikkim. The EOs lauded the smooth election in Sikkim without any traces of violence. The Observers appreciated the honesty and transparency shown by political parties throughout the election.
Mr Tushar G Nikhare DEO-cum-DC Gangtok also extended his heartfelt gratitude to representatives of Political parties for a peaceful election which has set a benchmark for other states in India. Further, the DEO congratulated the political parties for free and peaceful elections in the state which saw the highest voter turnout percentage in the country.
The DEO requested the representatives of political parties to submit their election accounts on time. He also cautioned that candidates who failed to comply by the final reconciliation dateline may face disqualification from future elections.
The Expenditure Observers have been assigned rooms at Gangtok District Zilla Bhawan where they will oversee the accounting process for General Elections 2024.
