Empowering Sikkim: CM PS Tamang Dedicates 2025-26 Budget to the People

Date: 28-Mar-2025
Gangtok, March 28 (IPR): Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay dedicated the General Budget for the financial year 2025-26, recently passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, to the people of Sikkim.
In his vote of thanks on the final day of the four-day Second Session (part-III) of the Eleventh Assembly’s Budget Session, he mentioned that every rupee allocated in the budget would directly benefit Sikkimese citizens through various schemes and programmes aimed at the overall development and welfare of the state.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to uplifting every section of society, the Chief Minister pointed out that Sikkim’s efforts in poverty alleviation have led to a commendably low 2.6% BPL rate. He reiterated that the General Budget would support ongoing initiatives to eliminate poverty at the earliest, along with prioritizing rural development to ensure progress reaches even the most remote areas of the state.
Education, another key priority for the State government, was highlighted by the Chief Minister as essential for the state’s progress. With a literacy rate of 90%, the government has been extending comprehensive support to students from under-privileged backgrounds through initiatives such as the Chief Minister Education Assistance Scheme and the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund. This assistance extends to students pursuing technical education, commercial pilot courses (benefiting 8 students), and studies in elite universities both domestically and abroad, including those supported by the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship scheme.
Addressing healthcare and social welfare, the Chief Minister mentioned that the Chief Minister Medical Assistance Scheme had already benefited 11,178 individuals since its inception in 2019, with full transparency ensured by disbursing funds solely via cheques. He also highlighted significant improvements in medical facilities—such as the establishment of dialysis services in every hospital and initiatives to develop kidney transplant facilities—while also noting support extended to 2,724 clubs and organisations.
As Sikkim prepares to celebrate its golden jubilee of statehood in May, the Chief Minister extended his gratitude to the Centre for five decades of assistance, urging everyone to come together as Team Sikkim to mark this historic milestone in a grand manner.
