Ecclesiastical Department Organises Plantation Drive under Sikkim Paryavaran Parva
Gangtok, July 14 (IPR): As part of the ongoing Sikkim Paryavaran Parva, the Ecclesiastical Department, in collaboration with the Sikkim Archery Association and with the support of the Forest Department, Government of Sikkim, organised a plantation drive under the theme “Leave a Green Legacy” at the Tathangchen Archery Field today.
The programme was attended by Minister for Ecclesiastical and PHED Departments, Mr Sonam Lama; Advisor for Forest and Environment Department-cum-MLA, Mr Tenzing Norbu Lamtha; Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister cum President Sikkim Archery Association, Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha; Advisor, Ecclesiastical Department, Mr Chewang Bhutia; Councillor, Tathangchen Ward, Ms Lashey Doma Bhutia; senior officials of the Ecclesiastical and Forest Departments; and members of the Sikkim Archery Association.
The plantation drive was organised with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, enhancing green cover, and encouraging collective responsibility towards safeguarding nature. Saplings were planted across the venue as a symbol of the State Government’s continued commitment to ecological restoration and sustainable development.
During the programme, benefits under the Sikkim Shishu Samriddhi Yojana were also extended to seven children. Fixed deposit certificates worth Rs. 10,800 each were handed over under the scheme, which secures the amount until the beneficiaries attain the age of 18 years, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to the welfare and future of children.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to nurture the planted saplings and continue supporting initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and leaving a lasting green legacy for generations to come. Also present on the occasion were Special Secretary, Ecclesiastical Department, Mr Sonam T. Tashi; Joint Directors Mr Ugen Thendup Bhutia and Mr Tshering Thendup Bhutia; Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Gangtok Division, Mr Kshitij Saxena; Assistant Conservator of Forests (Territorial), Gangtok, Mr Karma Sonam Bhutia; Range Officer, Mr Ashish Gurung; along with officers and officials from the Ecclesiastical and Forest Departments.
