Ecclesiastical Department Celebrates 50 Years of Statehood with Meditation “Inner Peace of Mind

To commemorate the celebration of 50 years of Statehood, the Ecclesiastical Department organised a Meditation session titled “Inner Peace of Mind” here at the Indoor Gymnasium Hall, Paljor Stadium, today.
The programme commenced with a prayer ceremony, followed by a Ngowa Monlam - an aspirational prayer for peace, healing, and the well-being of all those affected by the tragic Pahalgam terror attack.
The session was graced by the presence of His Eminence Sey Namkha Rinpoche (Speaker), and Minister Ecclesiastical Department Ven Sonam Lama.
Secretary Ecclesiastical Department, Ms Yishey D Yongda, in her welcome address, stressed the importance of nurturing the mind and expressed gratitude to all participants.
Minister Ven Sonam Lama, while addressing the gathering, reminded that the celebration of Statehood signifies the shared aspirations for the future. He encouraged the students to cultivate inner peace and mutual love and appreciated the Department’s efforts in realising the vision of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang. He stated that the youth are the future custodians of the State and must be guided towards the right path.
He advised the students to respect and obey their teachers, emphasising that teachers shape a better tomorrow. He urged them to integrate the teachings from the meditation session into their daily lives and to spread the message of peace among their families and communities. He also remarked on the privilege of receiving guidance from His Eminence Sey Namkha Rinpoche.
Before the main session, Mendrel offerings were performed to accumulate merit, remove obstacles, and invite auspiciousness, followed by demonstrations of basic meditation techniques highlighting the mind’s natural tendency toward distraction and continuous thought patterns.
Three core values were highlighted for the students:
- Strive to be happy at all times.
- Be confident.
- Be kind.
The session saw enthusiastic participation from students and teachers representing various institutions, including:
- Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School (TNSSS)
- Tadong Senior Secondary School (SSS)
- PM Shri Girls Senior Secondary School, Deorali
- Modern Senior Secondary School (SSS)
- West Point Senior Secondary School (SSS)
- Enchey Senior Secondary School (SSS)and Enchey Gonpa Monastic School
- Sichey Tamang Gonpa Monastic School
Colleges/Institutes :
- Department of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology
- Sowa Rigpa, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology
Each school and institution was represented by a group of students and accompanying teachers, collectively promoting the message of mindfulness and inner peace. Also present were the officials and staff of Ecclesiastical Department.
Additional Secretary Ecclesiastical Departmen Mr Sonam T Tashi proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all dignitaries, guests, organisers, and participants.
