District-Level School Games 2025 held at Reshithang Sports Complex

Gangtok, October 18 (IPR): The District-Level School Games 2025, organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim, was successfully held today at the Reshithang Sports Complex, Gangtok, showcasing the enthusiasm, energy, and emerging talent of young athletes from across the district.
The event was graced by the Chairman State Sports Development Board, Mr Rinzing Wangyal Chopel Bhutia as the chief guest.
The participating athletes were selected from various Block-Level competitions conducted earlier, forming part of the State’s structured pathway leading up to the State-Level School Games 2025. The initiative aims to identify and nurture promising school-level sportspersons to represent Sikkim in the forthcoming National School Games.
The event commenced with a Welcome Address and Brief Overview delivered by Deputy Director (HQ), Sports and Youth Affairs Department Mr Norbu Tshering Bhutia, who extended warm greetings to all participants, coaches, and officials. He underlined the importance of such competitions in building discipline, teamwork, and sporting excellence among the youth, further strengthening the foundation of Sikkim’s sports ecosystem.
Throughout the day, the Reshithang Sports Complex was filled with excitement as competitions were held in athletics, kho-kho, and table tennis, alongside kabaddi and archery trials. The trials saw enthusiastic participation from young aspirants across schools, providing a platform for identifying talented players for inter-district and State-level meets.
In the preceding days, basketball and taekwondo trials were also held at Paljor Stadium, where the turnout of student-athletes was higher than expected, reflecting the growing interest and participation in sports among the youth. The Department expressed satisfaction over the encouraging response and the emerging pool of talent across diverse disciplines.
In table tennis, Gangtok BAC secured the top position in the girls’ category, followed by Martam BAC and Nandok BAC in second and third place, respectively. In the boys’ category, Gangtok claimed first place, while Rakdong Tintek and Martam finished second and third.
In Kho-Kho, Bojoghari Senior Secondary School emerged victorious in the girls’ category, defeating CM Shri Raley Senior Secondary School by 17 points, while CM Shri Raley Senior Secondary School triumphed in the boys’ category with a 13-point win over Rumtek Senior Secondary School.
The athletics segment witnessed a series of impressive performances across both track and field events. In the 100 metres, Bishal Tamang and Rewa Baraily took first positions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively. Bishal Tamang continued his fine form by also winning the 200 metres, while Awandhika Tamang topped the girls’ category. In the middle-distance events, Ajs Khewa and Manisha Gurung won the 800 metres, while Thendup N. Bhutia and Rezal Sherpa claimed top honours in the 1500 metres.
In the field events, Punu Lepcha and Sharon Limboo emerged as winners in the shot Put, while Abigna Dhakal and Rewa Baraily claimed the long jump titles. The 4x100 metres relay concluded the athletics meet in thrilling fashion, with team Gangtok securing victory in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, followed by Nandok in second and Khamdong (boys) and Martam (girls) in third.
The District-Level School Games 2025 concluded on a spirited note, celebrating athletic excellence, discipline, and camaraderie. The winners from the district-level competitions will now advance to the State-Level School Games, where final selections will be made for the Sikkim contingent to represent the State at the National School Games 2025.
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening grassroots sports and fostering youth engagement in alignment with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of 50 Years of Sikkim’s Statehood 2025, reflecting the Government’s vision of building a healthier, stronger, and sports-driven Sikkim.
