District-Level Competition on Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat @2047, Mangan
Mangan, 1 August 2026: MY Bharat Mangan Office, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, successfully organized the District-Level Competition on "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat @2047" with the theme "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life, Yes to Nation" on 1st August 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall of PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan. The programme was organized in collaboration with PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan & Bhavishya Bharat with the objective of creating awareness among youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging them to become responsible citizens for a developed India by 2047.
The programme was graced by Shri Sherap Bhutia, Honourable Panchayat President, Ringhim-Nampatam GPU, as the Chief Guest. Ms. Janim Lepcha, Additional Director, Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim, Mangan District, attended as the Special Guest. Mr. Narsus Lepcha, Head of Recovery Centre, Mangan, along with other distinguished dignitaries, educators, government officials, and members of the community, were also present on the occasion.
The programme commenced with the registration of participants, followed by the ceremonial offering of Khadas to the Chief Guest and Special Guest. The inaugural session included the welcome address and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the beginning of the anti-drug awareness campaign and youth competition.
The first event of the day was the Elocution Competition, where 12 participants from across Mangan District eloquently spoke on the topics "Role of Youth in the Eradication of Drug Menace" and "Peer Pressure vs Personal Choice." The speakers emphasized the importance of informed decision-making, self-discipline, and youth leadership in building a drug-free society.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Narsus Lepcha, Head of Recovery Centre, Mangan, shared his inspiring personal journey and experiences in helping individuals recover from substance addiction. His heartfelt message highlighted the devastating impact of drugs on individuals and families while emphasizing that recovery and transformation are possible through determination, family support, and community intervention.
The programme continued with a series of vibrant competitions showcasing the creativity and commitment of young participants. A Dance Competition featuring six participants conveyed powerful anti-drug messages through artistic performances. This was followed by the Nukkad Natak (Street Play) Competition, in which five teams presented thought-provoking performances highlighting the social consequences of drug abuse and the importance of collective action against addiction. The Slam Poetry Competition, with six participants, captivated the audience through expressive performances reflecting the aspirations of youth and the need for a drug-free future. Competitions in Painting and Group Song also provided participants with platforms to creatively promote the message of healthy living, patriotism, and responsible citizenship.
Adding to the awareness campaign, Dr. Hari Chandra Chettri, Medical Officer, delivered an informative session on substance abuse and its harmful effects on the human body, mental health, families, and society. He urged students to make informed life choices and emphasized the importance of early prevention, counselling, and community support in combating drug addiction.
In his address, Chief Guest Shri Sherap Bhutia appreciated the initiative taken by MY Bharat and PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan, for organizing such a meaningful programme. He encouraged students to remain focused on their education, respect the guidance of their parents and teachers, and stay away from drugs and all forms of substance abuse. He remarked that parents are the true heroes who continuously guide their children towards a better future and urged the youth to follow the right path before it is too late. He congratulated all participants and winners and extended his best wishes to those who will represent Mangan District at the State-Level Competition.
Following the completion of all events, the panel of expert judges evaluated the performances and announced the results. The Chief Guest, Special Guest, and other dignitaries presented trophies, mementoes, and certificates to the winners securing First, Second, and Third positions in each competition, acknowledging their outstanding talent and commitment to the campaign's message.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Special Guest, judges, participating schools, students, teachers, volunteers, and all stakeholders for their invaluable support in making the event a grand success.
The District-Level Competition successfully reinforced the message of "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life, Yes to Nation", inspiring young people to become ambassadors of a drug-free society and active contributors towards the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
