District Water and Sanitation Mission Meeting Reviews Jal Jeevan Mission Progress in Mangan
Mangan, March 19 (IPR): A routine meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) was convened today in the chamber of the District Collector, Mangan, to review the progress and implementation status of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the district. The meeting was held under the aegis of the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, with a focus on strengthening water supply and sanitation initiatives across the district.
The meeting was attended by the Additional District Collector (ADC) Mangan, Mr Pema Wangchen Namkarpa, SDM Mangan, Mr Sandeep Kumar, ADC (Development) Dr Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, Additional Secretary cum District Planning Officer (DPO) Mr Karma Thendup Bhutia, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anita Bhutia, Zilla Panchayat members and officials from various line departments.
At the outset, the District Planning Officer, who is also the Nodal Officer for the District Water and Sanitation Mission under the Jal Jeevan Mission, provided a brief overview of the objectives of the review meeting. He highlighted the responsibilities of the concerned departments and emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among line departments to ensure the effective implementation of water and sanitation schemes in the district.
Following this, DE BAC Kabi Mr Sonam P. Bhutia presented a detailed status report on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, outlining completed works, ongoing projects, and physical progress across various blocks of the district. During the presentation, updates on the Jal Seva Ankan DTU Form checking were shared, noting that Kabi Tingda Block has completed assessments in all 10 villages, while Ingdong Block has completed 6 out of 13 villages. Progress updates were also provided for Mangan Block (16 villages) and Chungthang Block (4 villages).
The meeting further discussed the implementation of the Sujalam Bharat initiative. The initiative Jal Arpan Diwas was also discussed during the meeting.
Subsequently, ADC (Development) Dr. Sonam Rinchen Lepcha presented a comprehensive review of sanitation-related activities under DWSM. The review covered various components, including Solid Waste Management (SWM), Liquid Waste Management, Plastic Waste Management, Faecal Sludge Management, Individual Household Latrines (IHHL), Community Sanitary Complexes (CSC) and Menstrual Waste Management, emphasising the importance of improving sanitation infrastructure and sustainable waste management practices across the district.
The meeting concluded with an active in-house discussion, during which participants shared their observations, suggestions and recommendations aimed at strengthening the implementation of water supply and sanitation programmes in the district.
