District Health Society,Gyalshing, Observes World Tuberculosis Day 2026

Gyalshing, March 24(IPR): The District Health Society(NTEP), Gyalshing, observed World Tuberculosis Day 2026 at the Community Hall, Gyalshing, today.
The programme was organised under the theme “Yes, We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People”, with the objective of raising awareness about Tuberculosis (TB) and promoting collective action towards its elimination.
The event was graced by the District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, as the Chief Guest.
The event had the presence of ADC (Development) Mr Surat Kumar Gurung; Chief Medical Officer (CMO), District Hospital Gyalshing, Dr Namgay Bhutia; Deputy Director, CDPO Gyalshing; Welfare Officer,Gyalshing; senior doctors and officials from the medical fraternity; Panchayat members; principals and teachers of participating schools; representatives from NGOs and other organisations; and students from nearby schools.
At the outset, CMO Gyalshing, Dr Namgay Bhutia, welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. In his address, he highlighted the significance of World TB Day and shared key achievements in TB prevention and care in the district over the past year. He elaborated on initiatives undertaken by District Hospital Gyalshing, including surveys conducted across all GPUs, and expressed gratitude to NGOs and the public for their continued support. He attributed the district’s progress in combating TB to the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, the DC Gyalshing urged all stakeholders to actively spread awareness about TB and work towards eliminating the social stigma associated with the disease. He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in building a TB-free and supportive community. He also lauded the District TB Centre, Gyalshing, stakeholders, and Panchayats for securing silver and bronze awards at the State-level World TB Day programme, attributing the achievement to the dedication of health workers, partner agencies, and community participation.
Mr Praja Pati Sharma (STS) highlighted the importance of addressing social stigma through sustained awareness and sensitisation. He encouraged Panchayats to include TB-related issues in Gram Sabha discussions to strengthen community-level engagement.
Dr Suman Gurung, District Tuberculosis Officer(DTO), delivered a detailed presentation on Tuberculosis. He acknowledged the significant role played by TB Champions and Nikshay Mitras in addressing stigma, fear, and misinformation. He emphasised that TB elimination is a shared responsibility and encouraged the public to report suspected cases. He highlighted the availability of free medicines, nutritional support, and financial incentives for TB patients, reiterating that TB is a curable disease. He concluded with the slogan, “Yes, We Can End TB.”
The programme also featured felicitation of Nikshay Mitras and Panchayats for achieving TB-Free GPU status, in recognition of their continued support in TB eradication efforts. Certificates were distributed to acknowledge contributions from various stakeholders.
Earlier, the District Collector flagged off the 100 Days TB Campaign – Phase II under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The event also included a poem recitation and a TB-themed song performed by PTC students.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Bindhya Subedi, DHEO Gyalshing.
