District Collector Namchi Chairs Meeting On Road and Water Source Maintenance
Namchi, November 2 (IPR): A meeting to review issues concerning road maintenance, water pipeline leakages, drainage systems and protection of water sources across the district was held at the District Administrative Centre Namchi, under the chairmanship of District Collector, Namchi, Ms Anupa Tamling.
During the meeting, the District Collector stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among the concerned departments, including Urban Development Department (UDD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Forest Department, Roads and Bridges Department and local Panchayats, to address the identified issues through proper planning and timely intervention. She directed the departments to prioritise immediate temporary repairs wherever permanent solutions were not feasible, particularly in cases involving damaged roads, leaking pipelines and drainage problems.
The meeting also deliberated on the protection of major water intake sources supplying Bermoik and Adarsh Gaon, along with road alignment issues in the Temi-Tarku and Pasi areas. The DC emphasised that road construction and realignment works should not compromise existing water sources and stressed that contractors responsible for causing damage should be held accountable.
She further underscored the need for proper surveys, field verification and coordination with local Panchayats to identify affected water sources and prevent further damage. The concerned departments were directed to take proactive measures and work towards practical solutions through effective inter-departmental coordination.
It was decided that a joint resurvey and post-inspection would be conducted after Diwali under the leadership of the District Collector, involving representatives from the concerned departments and Panchayats. The exercise would focus on identifying existing issues, safeguarding water sources and ensuring sustainable solutions well before the onset of the rainy season.
Today's meeting was attended by ADC (HQ) Namchi Mr Subash Ghimirey, SDM (HQ) Namchi Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, AE (Roads) Mr Kenya Choppel Bhutia, JE (Roads) Mr Yogesh Chettri, Panchayat President (Bermoik GPU) Ms Sanki Bhutia, Panchayat President (Temi GPU) Ms Binita Vista, Panchayat President (Namphing GPU) Mr Arpan Subba and other concerned officials.
