District Collector Gyalshing convenes review meeting with RDD and ULBs on “Swachhata Hi Seva”
Gyalshing, 23 September (IPR): Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, District Collector, Gyalshing, chaired a crucial coordination meeting with Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) today, under the agenda of Swachhata Hi Seva. This was in continuation to the first meeting held on 20/9/24 with all Magistrates, Heads of line departments, ADC Development, BDOs, IPR, Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kendra, President - Pelling Tourism Development Committee and Coordinator- Swadesh Darshan. Besides reviewing the various ongoing activities while observing the
fortnight dedicated to “Swachhata Hi Seva”, the DC through a power point presentation, explained about a unique concept to engage households for efficient waste segregation at source and particularly, management of kitchen (Biodegradable) waste. The concept, applicable for hotel establishments of the district was highlighted to President, PTDA for further dissemination & adoption by hotels & Homestays.
Urging the ULBs and Panchayats representing peri-Urban areas for participation & cooperation in the initiative, the DC delved upon the beneficial attributes of managing the Wet waste on a daily basis in comparison to Dry waste which has a longer shelf life that could be stored & collected periodically from households.
During the two meetings the Panchayat Presidents and ULB members committed their roles in carrying the concept forward in their respective areas and also appreciated the novel idea put forth by the DC.
ADC Development Mr Gurung, MEO Mr Sharma and BDO Mr Bhutia were asked to compile the list of households for implementation of the Pilot project which would be implemented in 10 households per ward of the Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat, Pelling and Tikjuk Kyongsa peri- Urban wards whereby the Wet Waste would not have to be discarded into the garbage vehicle.
Additionally, all present were asked to aggressively participate in the collection and transportation of electronic waste at the e-waste collection centre at DAC which would be handed over to Pollution Control Board empaneled recycler at Kolkata.
