District Administration ensures safe return of tourists from Chungthang to Mangan via Sangkalang
Mangan, April 25 (IPR)
The process of safe return of tourists from Chungthang began early morning today through the newly constructed Bailey bridge at Sangkalang. As per the current data at the site, around 200 vehicles have already passed through the bridge and are on their way to Gangtok via Mangan.
The Bailey Bridge was recently launched by the Trishakti Corps, Indian Army and was inaugurated only yesterday.
District Magistrate Mangan District Mr Anant Jain along with SP Mangan Mr Sonam Detchu Bhutia visited the site to monitor and guide the operations on the ground.
While roads to Lachen and Lachung remain closed due to mudslides caused by heavy rainfall last evening, efforts are underway to clear the routes, with restoration work being carried out on priority to ensure continued movement and safety of travellers.
Meanwhile, the District Administration has made all necessary arrangements to ensure that the tourists stranded at Lachung and Lachen are safe.
After taking stock of the situation at Sangkalang, the District Collector, along with SP Mangan and Deputy Director DDMA proceeded towards Chungthang for further assessment.
