Director, ECI, Chairs Review Meeting on SIR 2026 at DAC Namchi

Namchi, June 3 (IPR): A review meeting on the ongoing exercise process of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026, was chaired by the Director, Election Commission of India (ECI), Ms Shubhra Saxena, with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre (DAC), Namchi, today.
Addressing the gathering, the Director elaborated on the significance and objectives of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the need for maintaining accurate and inclusive electoral rolls.
She further clarified about the purpose behind conducting the exercise in the State, stating that the revision aims to saturate the electoral rolls by ensuring that only eligible electors are enrolled while eliminating ineligible entries.
Highlighting the crucial role of EROs, AEROs, and BLOs in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process, Ms Saxena stressed the importance of carrying out the exercise with diligence and responsibility. Referring to the State’s international border, she noted the possibility of illegal migration and urged officials to remain vigilant during the verification process to prevent the inclusion of ineligible persons in the electoral rolls.
She further stressed that mapping exercises must be undertaken with utmost care, proper review, and thorough verification. Directing BLOs to avoid “blind mapping,” and also instructed them to strictly adhere to protocols while ensuring that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter is included.
During the meeting, Ms Saxena inquired into and evaluated the mapping status of each Assembly Constituency (AC), reviewing the progress made by BLOs and urging them to carefully follow procedures. At the same time, she advised officials to ensure that citizens are not unnecessarily harassed during the verification process.
The Director also interacted with BLOs, addressing their concerns and clarifying doubts regarding the implementation process of SIR 2026. She further instructed the District Election Officer (DEO) to conduct regular review meetings with BLOs and AEROs/AROs to monitor progress and ensure effective implementation.
She also appreciated the efforts made by the district administration and acknowledged the progress achieved so far in the implementation of SIR 2026. She also lauded the dedicated work being carried out by BLOs at the ground level in ensuring the effective execution of the revision process.
Ms Anupa Tamling, District Election Officer (DEO), Namchi, presented a PowerPoint presentation on the district’s preparedness for SIR 2026. She explained various aspects of the revision process, including mapping procedures, training of EROs, AEROs and BLOs, enumeration forms, and the establishment of Help Desks/Internet Hubs in the district.
DEO Namchi also informed that regular review meetings would be conducted to monitor progress and address challenges. Concluding her address, she conveyed her best wishes to all EROs, AEROs and BLOs. Further, she encouraged them to discharge their responsibilities with utmost dedication and commitment.
Earlier, on her way to Namchi, the Director visited Temi Tea Estate; she was accompanied by  Ms Bijayata Kharel, LO/Dy Director, LR&DD, Ms Tirsang Tamang, ADC, Namchi, along with other officials.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector (HQ), Namchi, Mr Subash Ghimirey, Deputy Secretary (Election) Ms Bhumika Chettri, SDM (HQ) Namchi, Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, EROs, AEROs and BLOs from across Namchi District.
