Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation Celebrates World Tourism Day at Soreng

Soreng, September 27 (IPR): The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Soreng District, celebrated World Tourism Day at Pandhi Inn, Soreng, under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Chairperson, All Sikkim Scheduled Tribe Welfare Board, Mr PK Subba, accompanied by the Guest of Honour, Chairperson, Sikkim Land Use and Environment Board, Mr Phurba Tshering Bhutia.
As part of the celebration, a video message of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, was screened, along with a video presentation by the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr TT Bhutia.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr PK Subba congratulated the awardees and highlighted Sikkim’s natural beauty and the importance of preserving and promoting its pristine environment. He encouraged tourists from across the country and around the world to visit Sikkim and appreciated the contributions of the Chief Minister towards the development of tourism in the State.
He also highlighted the significant role of homestays in promoting community-based tourism and generating livelihood opportunities, particularly in the districts. He further offered suggestions to the department for strengthening and developing tourism infrastructure and activities in Soreng District.
During the programme, Mr Yehangla Subba delivered a PowerPoint presentation on “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Redesigning Tourism.” The presentation highlighted various digital initiatives undertaken to modernise tourism services, including the Sikkim Tourism Development Web Portal, online registration and renewal of accommodation units through Sikkim GO, Asset Management System, INSPIRES Portal for Tourism Initiatives and Public Information, Atithi App (Guest Information System), implementation of the e-File module under e-Office, Alumni Network Management System, Online Placement System, and Feedback Management System.
The celebration also featured cultural performances presented by officials of the District Tourism Office, Soreng District.
As part of the programme, the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation felicitated the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Certificates and awards were also presented to tourism stakeholders in recognition of their performance and contribution to the tourism sector.

The programme concluded with an open discussion, providing an opportunity for stakeholders and participants to share their views, suggestions and ideas for further strengthening tourism development in Soreng District.
Present during the event were Panchayat members, Former Councillor, Senior Welfare Officer Ms Prativa Tamang, AO (R&B) Mr Navraj Sharma, AD (Tourism) Mr Subash Chandra Rai and Ms Sandhya Sharma, officials and staffs and stakeholders.
