Day four of the 78th Independence Day Open Knockout Football Tournament 2024, Pakyong District.
Pakyong, 6 August (IPR): The 78th Independence Day 2024 Open Knockout Football Tournament continues to captivate football enthusiasts, with the fourth day of matches taking place today at St. Xavier’s School ground in Pakyong.
The tournament is organised by Pakyong Progressive Youths in collaboration with Pakyong Sporting Club.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr Uttam Lepcha, a social worker, as the chief guest, alongside special guests Mr Anup Agarwal, a social worker and entrepreneur, and Mr Pawan Gurung, Ms Junu Chettri, Mr Pankaj Giri and Mr R.K. Waling, all social workers, as guests of honour.
Additionally, the District Level Inter School Football Tournament for under-14 boys commenced today, which was inaugurated by Ms Ladem Lhamu Bhutia, Zilla Adhyaksha, and organised by the Sports & Youth Affairs Department of Pakyong District.
A total of 11 schools will participate in this tournament. The first match under-14 was played between Eklavya Model Residential School, Parakha, and Pachey Sr. Sec. School. The final score was 2-1 in favour of Pachey Sr. Sec. School.
In the second match, Sikkim Dragon played against Brotherhood F.C., with Sikkim Dragon winning 2-1. Mr Kenze Rai from Sikkim Dragon was awarded Man of the Match for his performance.
The day also included a cultural dance performance by Dugalakha Junior High School.
Also present were Mr S.P. Bhutia, DFO (T),Mr Narayan Mishra Joint Director Education Department, Mr BP Sharma Joint Director Education Department and Ms Poonam Pradhan Deputy Director, head of offices from various departments and local gentry.
