Day Two of Sikkim State Basketball Open Tournament 2025 Showcases Competitive Spirit
Gangtok, November 9 (IPR): The second day of the Sikkim State Basketball Open Tournament 2025, organised by the Basketball Association of Sikkim, continued today across two venues: the Basketball Court at Paljor Stadium and Paljor Namgyal Girls’ Senior Secondary School.
The day’s schedule featured matches under the Women’s Category, along with the Men’s Quarterfinals. The fixtures drew keen competition as teams vied for advancement to the next phase of the tournament.
Mr Aditya Golay, MLA from Soreng–Chakung constituency, graced the event as the Chief Guest and witnessed the matches held at both venues. He was accompanied by Mr Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, Chief Patron of the Basketball Association of Sikkim and Chairman of SIMFED.
Addressing the players and officials, the Chief Guest extended his best wishes to all participating teams and appreciated their dedication, discipline and sportsmanship. He highlighted the growing prominence of basketball in Sikkim and encouraged the athletes to continue striving for excellence. He also acknowledged the efforts of the organisers in promoting a competitive sporting culture in the State.
On the occasion, Mr Aditya Golay announced a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each for the Most Valuable Player and Highest Scorer of the two Women’s matches he attended: Ravens versus ISA Nepal, and Mavericks versus Hawks.
In the Ravens versus ISA Nepal match, the Highest Scorer award was conferred upon Ms Lasangla Lama of Team Ravens, while the Most Valuable Player award was presented to Ms Thinlay Choekyi, also of Team Ravens.
In the Mavericks versus Hawks match, the Highest Scorer award was secured by Ms Tshering Ongmu of Team Mavericks, while Ms Tshering Eden of the same team received the Most Valuable Player award.
Meanwhile, Mr Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, Chief Patron of the Basketball Association of Sikkim announced a cash prize of Rs 5,000 for the Highest Scorer of the Men’s Quarterfinal match between Yetis and GTK Ballers. The award was received by Mr Prince Tyagi of Team Yetis.
