Day Three of the North East National Service Scheme Festival
Gangtok, July 19 (IPR): Day three of the five-day North East National Service Scheme (NSS) Festival, being held from July 16 to 20, commenced with an energetic Zumba session conducted by Ms Phurba Doma. Following the session, the contingents proceeded to the Swarna Jayanti Maitreya Manjari and Orchidarium for a field visit, where they explored the nation's largest Cool House Orchidarium and the Orchid Museum. The facility stands as a testament to Sikkim's rich floral heritage and the State Government's continued commitment to biodiversity conservation, eco-tourism, and sustainable tourism development.
Home to a wide variety of rare and indigenous orchid species, the Orchidarium showcases Sikkim's remarkable ecological wealth while highlighting the State's ongoing efforts to conserve and preserve its natural heritage.
During the visit, the contingents were briefed on the diverse orchid varieties found in Sikkim, including the 507 species recorded across the State.
The latter half of the day witnessed a cultural exchange competition, in which contingents from each participating state represented another state through cultural performances. The performances were evaluated on the basis of Synchronisation (10), Costumes (10), Expression (10), Presentation (10), and Spacing (10), with a total of 50 points.
The competition was judged by Mr Goni Basar from Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Demi Lamare from Meghalaya, Mr Yasup from Sikkim, Ms Srijana Hazarika from Assam, Mr Prasanjit Das from Tripura, Ms Tokani from Nagaland, and Mr Kamding Liana from Mizoram.
The state representations were as follows:
1. Assam contingent represented Mizoram.
2. Arunachal Pradesh contingent represented Tripura.
3. Manipur contingent represented Assam.
4. Meghalaya contingent represented Nagaland.
5. Mizoram contingent represented Arunachal Pradesh.
6. Nagaland contingent represented Meghalaya.
7. Sikkim contingent represented Manipur.
8. Tripura contingent represented Sikkim.
With this, the third day of the festival concluded successfully.
Officials from the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and the National Service Scheme were also present during today's programme.
