Day 1 of Home Voting for General Elections, 2024 commences in Soreng

Soreng, April 4 (IPR): In a historic step to make voting process inclusive and accessible, the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced the option of Home Voting for senior citizens in the bracket of 85+ years and People with Disabilities (PwD) through Postal Ballots for the General Elections, 2024. In this regard, the District’s Polling Teams led by the Sector Magistrates left for their respective sectors today from the District Administrative Centre under the supervision of Ms Yishey D Yongda DEO cum DC Soreng. Also, present were Mr Dhiraj Subedi Deputy DEO cum ADC, SDMs, ROs, AROs, Sector Magistrates, Polling Officers along with Micro Observers.
Prior to the Home Voting Teams’ departure, they were handed over Polling kits at the Dispatch Centre.
While briefing the eight Home Voting Teams, the DEO mentioned that with the adequate training provided to the teams, there ought to not be errors or mistakes in the procedure. Some important instructions were also given to the Polling Officials with regard to the strict compliance of the voting protocols which included proper security of Postal Ballots, and completion of mandatory paper-works while the Postal Ballot is being casted.
To ensure transparency, the list of voters who have opted for home voting have been shared with the candidates contesting from all constituencies, she informed. After the completion of the voting process, the postal ballots will be securely stored at the Strong Rooms located at B.Ed. College.
As informed by the DEO (Soreng) there are 266 home voters in the four constituencies of Soreng district. The Home Voting process that commenced today will culminate on April 8, 2024, for the 1st phase and will re-commence on April 13 to April 16.
