DEO Soreng Holds Monthly Coordination Meeting with Political Party Representatives

Soreng, March 10 (IPR): The District Election Officer and District Collector (Soreng) Mr Dhiraj Subedi, chaired a monthly coordination meeting with representatives of political parties at DAC Soreng today.
Addressing the house, the DEO emphasised the importance of political party representatives attending the monthly meetings with DEO and EROs, highlighting the mandate of the Election Commission of India (ECI). He then presented the agenda items of the meeting, stressing the need for thorough preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
The DEO further informed about the legal mechanisms related to electoral matters and clarified that any citizenship related queries should be brought before the District Administration, assuring necessary guidance and support. Informing about the upcoming Soreng Nagar Panchayat election in the district, he also briefed the house on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and urged all to strictly follow the guidelines and procedures of the ECI.
Additionally, ADC (Soreng) and ERO (08 Salghari-Zoom AC) Mr DR Bista elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of political party representatives during the electoral process. He also touched upon the duties of the Returning Officer (RO) and Assistant Returning Officers (ARO). In addition, he highlighted the prohibitory orders to be enforced during the MCC period, including restrictions on gatherings and urged all concerned to adhere to the directives of the ECI. He further provided a detailed briefing on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), highlighting constituency-wise mapping details with percentage figures.
Further, the ADC called for full cooperation from political party representatives to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the election process. The house was also informed about the polling stations identified for the upcoming Soreng Nagar Panchayat election.
It was noted that a meeting between EROs and political party representatives had earlier been held on March 9.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba.
Representatives from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) were present at the meeting.
Also present during the meeting were ADC (Soreng) and ERO (08 Salghari-Zoom AC) Mr DR Bista, SDM (HQ) and ERO (06 Daramdin AC) Mr Prem K Subba, SDM (Soreng) and ERO (07 Soreng-Chakung AC) Ms Sakchum Lepcha, SDM (Mangalbaria) and ERO (05 Rinchenpong AC) Mr DN Sharma and officials and staff from Election Cell (Soreng).
