DCDC Meeting for Mangan District Reviews Progress of Cooperative Societies
Mangan, May 12 (IPR): The Department of Co-operation, Mangan, convened the 4th District Cooperative Development Committee (DCDC) meeting today under the chairmanship of District Collector Mr Anant Jain.
The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies (DRCS) Mr Atish Rai , followed by a detailed presentation highlighting the progress of targets set under the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025 initiatives and various developmental activities being undertaken in the district by ARCS Mr Reekpa Hissay.
A major focus of the meeting was the ongoing Computerisation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) under Phase I and II, aimed at strengthening transparency, efficiency and digital accessibility within cooperative institutions. The Committee discussed the importance of modernizing cooperative societies to ensure improved service delivery and better financial management.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of PACS as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PMKSKs), a scheme pertaining to the distribution of fertilizers through PACS. Under the pilot phase, two societies from Mangan district namely Kabi MPCS Ltd. and Mangan MPCS Ltd. have been identified to operate as PMKSK centres. It was informed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IFFCO Sikkim Organic Ltd. has already been signed. The officers further highlighted that support from the Agriculture and Horticulture Department, Government of Sikkim, would play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the scheme.
Deliberations during the meeting centred on strengthening the cooperative movement through better coordination, effective implementation of schemes, financial discipline, capacity building and promotion of cooperative-based livelihood activities. Emphasis was also laid on enhancing transparency, accountability and public participation in the functioning of cooperative societies.
Addressing the meeting, District Collector Mr Anant Jain urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards empowering cooperative institutions and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development in the district through the cooperative movement. He also stressed the need for proper branding and promotion of products and items produced through cooperative societies, along with detailed dissemination of information regarding schemes and products, which would help in expanding their reach and market visibility on a broader scale.
