DC Soreng Chairs Quarterly Review Meeting at DAC Soreng
District Collector (Soreng) Mr Dhiraj Subedi chaired a quarterly review meeting at District Administrative Centre, Soreng, today.
The review meeting was focused on the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The meeting reviewed ongoing initiatives and discussed challenges in implementation and emphasised the need for effective coordination among departments to ensure the protection of rights and welfare of marginalised communities.
During the meeting, the DC directed concerned officers to enhance awareness among officials and staff within their respective departments to ensure timely redressal of grievances, promote greater awareness and proper coordination for better implementation.
Additionally, the Senior Welfare Officer (Soreng) apprised the house about the online portal for transgender persons. The DC then emphasised effective enforcement of relevant Acts and instructed concerned departments to remain updated and well informed about its legal provisions.
The house also discussed the issue of manual scavenging activities within the district, wherein the district administration ensure adherence to safety measures and provide proper protective gear to safeguard the health and well being of workers involved.
Also present during the meeting were Panchayats, ADC-I (Soreng) Mr D R Bista, SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba, SDM (Soreng) Ms Sakchum Lepcha, SDM (Mangalbarey) Mr DN Sharma, SDPO (Soreng) Mr Chewang Dorjee Bhutia, Senior Welfare Officer (Soreng) Mrs Prativa Tamang, BDOs and representatives from concerned departments.
