DC Soreng Chairs District Level Monsoon Preparedness Meeting at Rurban Complex

Soreng, April 29 (IPR): Mr Dhiraj Subedi DC cum Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) chaired a District Level Monsoon preparedness Meeting at Rurban Complex, Soreng, today.
The meeting was organised by the Soreng District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to review monsoon readiness and enhance inter-departmental coordination for effective disaster response during the upcoming monsoon season.
Mr Dhiraj Subedi addressed the gathering where, he emphasised the importance of coordinated preparedness among all line departments and highlighted that each department has a vital role in managing emergencies and their active involvement is key to an effective disaster response system.
Additionally, he highlighted that landslide is the major hazard in Soreng District and urged departments to focus on landslide-prone and vulnerable areas. He also stressed that timely preparedness is essential to reduce risks and improve disaster response outcomes. He further, outlined the roles and responsibilities of both first responder teams and private sector firms encouraging them to align their activities with their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to contribute suggestions in order to strengthen the district’s disaster management strategies.
Also, he spoke about several ongoing initiatives in the district and called for collective participation from all stakeholders. He further, highlighted the successful implementation of the “Swaachha Pani, Swaachha Hami” Abhiyaan, which has considerably contributed to the control of vector-borne diseases in the district. He also, acknowledged the hard work of departments involved and urged them to continue the effort.
Concluding his address, he informed regarding the circulation of a new Resource Mapping Format and urged all departments to fill it out promptly. He assured that the District Administration in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) would support and coordinate to address any resource gaps. He then, urged all departments to regularly update situational reports to ensure safety across all parameters.
Initially, various line departments presented a detailed PowerPoint presentations and action plans wherein, the DC reviewed the plans and provided guidance, particularly directing the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Roads & Bridges Department (R&B) to work in close coordination, as they are the lifelines during monsoon season.
An open house discussion was also held with Zilla Panchayat Members, Panchayat Members, line departments and stakeholders to address the concerns regarding monsoon preparedness.
In addition, hands-on training on filling out Ex-Gratia forms was conducted by Mr DR Bista ADC-I for Panchayat members and Block Development Officers (BDOs), ensuring smooth processing of relief claims during emergencies.
The meeting was had the presence and participation of by Zilla Panchayat Members, Panchayat Members, Mr Nahkul Pradhan SP (Soreng), Mr DR Bista ADC-I, Mr Gaayas Pega ADC (Dev.), Mr Prem K Subba SDM (HQ), Ms Sakchum Lepcha SDM (Soreng), Mr LD Sharma CEO (Education), Mr Pranaya Gurung Addl. Director (Agriculture), Dr Kishore Thapa Addl. Director (Animal Husbandry), Mr Tara Subba SE (Roads & Bridges Department), Mr Sanjay Pd Deputy Sharma Deputy Commandant 36 Battalion SSB (Gyalshing), BDOs, Police Personnel, 2nd IRBn personnel (Pipaley), Heads of Departments, Officers and officials of various line departments and representatives from NTPC, NHPC and DANS Energy.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address delivered by Mr Prem K Subba SDM (HQ) while, a vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Sakchum Lepcha SDM Soreng.
