DC Namchi Conducts On-Site Inspection of Samdruptse Landslip
Namchi, July 14 (IPR): Under the supervision of the District Collector, Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling, an on-site inspection of the landslip-affected Samdruptse road was conducted today. The landslip has damaged the approach road connecting Samdruptse from the Namchi–Damthang road, disrupting vehicular movement.
Upon arriving at the site, the District Collector carried out a detailed assessment of the extent of the damage and directed the Roads & Bridges Department to undertake immediate temporary restoration of the affected stretch to facilitate one-way movement of light motor vehicles. She further instructed the department to prepare and submit a comprehensive plan for a permanent restoration solution within one week.
Emphasising the need for preventive measures, the District Collector also directed the Roads & Bridges Department to construct adequate drainage channels to divert surface water away from the affected road, thereby reducing the risk of further erosion and landslips.
The District Collector further instructed the Forest & Environment Department to identify and remove trees within the slip zone that pose a potential hazard, as they could collapse and aggravate the damage in the event of further instability.
She also advised all concerned line departments to closely monitor the situation and formulate appropriate mitigation measures to safeguard the area and ensure the earliest possible restoration of normalcy.
The inspection was attended by the Divisional Engineer (Roads & Bridges) Mr N T Yolmo, SDM (HQ) Namchi Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, DPO (LR&DM) Mr Suraj Rai, Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers from the Roads & Bridges Department, officials from the Forest & Environment Department, representatives of NHIDCL, members of the Samdruptse Management Committee and Government contractors.
