DC Namchi Chairs National Highway Taskforce Committee Meeting
Namchi, May 05 (IPR): A meeting of the National Highway Taskforce Committee was convened under the chairmanship of the District Collector Namchi, Ms Anupa Tamling, at the Conference Room of Town Hall, Namchi, today.
During the meeting, the DC directed the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrates to conduct surveys and inspections of the National Highways falling under their respective jurisdictions, with a focus on assessing the extent of encroachments and identifying any unauthorised structures.
She further instructed the authorities to formulate a comprehensive action plan for conducting these surveys and to compile accurate data for subsequent action.
Emphasising a coordinated approach, she advised the concerned line departments to actively participate in the inspection process.
She also underscored the importance of strict adherence to the prescribed guidelines while undertaking these surveys.
Earlier, the Senior Superintendent of Police Namchi, Ms Sonam Doma Bhutia, briefed the committee on the interim directions issued by the Supreme Court regarding safety measures on National Highways.
She highlighted that the prohibition and removal of encroachments, including unauthorised structures along the highways, must be strictly enforced, along with a ban on illegal parking.
She further stated that a District Highway Safety Taskforce should be constituted to undertake regular patrolling and surveillance, and to ensure strict enforcement against unauthorised parking along highway stretches.
Additionally, she stressed the need to identify accident-prone zones and blind spots, and to install appropriate warning signage in such areas. She reiterated that all encroachments must be removed in a timely manner, in accordance with the established guidelines.
The committee also deliberated on various measures to enhance the safety and accessibility of National Highways for the public. Discussions were held on the identification and demarcation of critical areas requiring signage and regulatory attention.
