DC Gyalshing Conducts On-Site Inspection of Landslide-Affected Areas at Singlitam and Rimbi
Gyalshing, 2 September (IPR): District Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa, conducted an on-site inspection of landslide-affected areas at Singlitam and Rimbi in Gyalshing District today to assess the ground situation and review the immediate relief, safety and restoration measures.
The District Collector was accompanied by ASP Gyalshing, Mr Sonam Wangdi; SE, Power Department, Mr Jai Prakash Subba; DPO, Disaster Management, Mr Ganesh Rai; Commandant, 72nd Battalion SSB, Mr Jai Prakash; DIO, IPR, Mr Rajen Tamang; BO, Forest Department, Mr Thutop Bhutia; DE, Power Department; DE, Roads Department; RO, Yuksam; Panchayat President, Timbrung GPU; Zilla Panchayat, Melli-Aching TC; Ward Panchayat Singlitam, officials from the concerned line departments; and the Rescue Team of the 72nd Battalion SSB, Melli.
During the inspection, the District Collector assessed the extent of damage and reviewed the preparedness and response measures being undertaken by the concerned departments. He directed the officials to ensure that all necessary safety and relief measures are put in place promptly for the affected and vulnerable households.
The District Collector directed the concerned authorities to ensure adequate lighting, including the installation of halogen lights, in vulnerable locations through the concerned Panchayat, particularly in areas where power supply has been disrupted. He also instructed the concerned department to restore damaged water pipelines at the earliest to ensure uninterrupted water supply to affected households.
The Forest Department was directed to identify and remove trees that pose a potential danger to residents and infrastructure, particularly in landslide-prone areas.
The District Collector further directed the concerned authorities to assess houses vulnerable to landslides and initiate necessary measures for compensation and relief to affected families as per applicable norms.
The landslide has blocked the road, disrupting normal vehicular movement. As a precautionary measure, two houses have been evacuated due to the threat posed by the landslide.
Current Situation
1. Two houses have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
2. Road connectivity has been affected due to blockage caused by the landslide.
3. Further assessment of the affected area and restoration of road connectivity are underway.
Necessary relief and safety measures are being undertaken for the affected families. Restoration of road connectivity and other essential services are being pursued on priority.
