DC Gyalshing Chairs Meeting with the Representatives of Political Parties
Gyalshing, March 26 (IPR):A meeting of the District Election Officer-cum-District Collector, Gyalshing, with the representatives of political parties of the district was held at the District Conference Hall, Gyalshing, today.
The meeting was chaired by the District Election Officer-Cum-District Collector, Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa and attended by Mr Tshering Sherpa, Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing; Mr Suresh Rai, Additional District Collector,Gyalshing ; Ms Tripti Hangma Subba, Additional District Collector (HQ); Mr Sandesh Subba, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Gyalshing; officials from the Election Department; and representatives of political parties functioning in the district.
The meeting focused on comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Nagar Panchayat Election 2026. Key agenda points included briefing on the election process, nomination procedures scheduled for March 27 and 28 , finalisation of polling station lists, total number of voters, and checklist requirements for nomination.
Discussions were also held on provisions for home voting, deployment of the Election Observer, Shri Bimal Rai, SCS, Secretary, IT Department, implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), and training of personnel.
Addressing the house, the Additional District Collector, Mr Suresh Rai, informed that in pursuance of Rule 21 of the Sikkim Municipalities (Conduct of Election) Rules, 2007, the State Election Commission has notified the following schedule for the elections: March 30, 2026 (Monday) as the last date for filing nominations; April 1, 2026 (Wednesday) for scrutiny of nominations; April 4, 2026 (Saturday) as the last date for withdrawal of candidatures; April 24, 2026 (Friday) as the date of poll, if necessary; and April 25, 2026 (Saturday) as the date before which the election process shall be completed. He also briefed on the list of polling station areas falling within the Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat.
The Additional District Collector (HQ), Ms Tripti Hangma Subba, highlighted the importance of inclusive electoral practices, particularly home voting, and stated that close monitoring is being undertaken to ensure compliance with all prescribed protocols. She emphasised that such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening democratic participation and ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind.
The Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing, deliberated on issues relating to law and order, while the SDM, Gyalshing, briefed officials on administrative preparedness. The SDM also conducted a comprehensive session on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), outlining the roles and responsibilities of officials, and the importance of maintaining transparency, neutrality, and discipline throughout the election process.
During the meeting, the District Election Officer assured representatives of political parties that any issues pertaining to breaches of guidelines of the State Election Commission(SEC) would be addressed promptly with strict adherence to established norms. He encouraged all stakeholders to work collectively to resolve emerging concerns and stressed the importance of compliance with State Election Commission(SCI)guidelines to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment from all stakeholders towards conducting peaceful, free, and orderly elections in the district.
