DC Gangtok meets Sector Magistrates and BLOs to brief about the new Home Voting Process
Gangtok, April 4 (IPR): Mr Tushar G Nikhare District Collector Gangtok-cum-District Election Office Gangtok, chaired a meeting with Sector Magistrates and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) under Gangtok district here at Conference Hall of DAC Sichey, today.
The meeting was attended by Mr Tushar G Nikhare DEO Gangtok-cum-Returning Officer for 01- Sikkim Parliamentary Constituency and 32- Sangha Assembly Constituency, Mr Milan Rai ADC (HQ) Gangtok-cum-Returning Officer for
25- Upper Tadong and 16- Tuming Lingee, Mr Rohan Agawane ADC Gangtok-cum-Returning Officer for 26- Arithang and 27-Gangtok, Mr Roshan Subba SDM Gangtok-cum-Returning Officer for 24-Martam-Rumtek, Mr GL Meena SDM Gangtok-cum-Returning Officer for 23-Shyari and 28-Upper Burtuk, Mr Suresh Rai SDM Rabdang-cum-Returning Officer for 17- Khamdong-Singtam and Officers of District Election Office Gangtok.
The new Home Voting System is a new feauture introduced in the General Elections 2024 by Election Commission of India (ECI) which allows senior citizens (85+) years of age and Persons with Disabilities (benchmark 40%) disability to vote from the comfort of their home.
DC-cum-DEO Gangtok, in his address cautioned the BLOs to be careful during election duty and to ensure that all protocols are followed. He stressed on explaining the voters about the Home Voting process and to be unbiased during the procedure and to maintain the secrecy of voting. He also stated the importance of informing the political parties before the commencement of Home Voting process. The DEO directed the Sector Magistrates to be vigilant during Home Voting and never to be leave the EVMs unguarded.
Likewise, the Returning Officers also briefed about the Home Voting process. They instructed BLOs to inform the Home Voters in advance about their arrival in their home. Further, the BLOs were instructed to distribute Voter Information Slip (VIS) which contains detail of the voters. They were briefed in detail about Home Voting procedure.
It maybe mentioned that the Home Voting process begins from tomorrow i.e., 05.04.2024 (Friday) in all the constituencies under Gangtok district and conclude on 08.04.2024 (Monday).
