DC Gangtok Focuses on Dhara Vikas Project and Climate Conservation in DWSM Meeting
Gangtok, January 28 (IPR):
District Collector, Mr Tushar Nikhare chaired the District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) meeting today at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok.
The meeting saw the presence of key officials, including Mr Sisum Wangchuk Lepcha,Additional District Magistrate Gangtok, Mr Girdhari Lal Meena, SDM (HQ) Mr Roshan Subba, SDM Rabdang, Mr Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Collector, Mr Sonam Gyatso Bhutia, DPO Zilla along with Block Development Officers (BDOs) and officials from allied departments.
A PowerPoint presentation highlighted the various projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) across different blocks in Gangtok District. Officials from Rakdong Tintek, Khamdong, Ranka, and Nandok Blocks provided updates on their ongoing and completed projects, emphasising the importance of geotagging. The District Collector urged them to scale up their efforts while ensuring proper documentation through geotagging.
The meeting also reviewed progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), with Assistant Engineers (AEs) and officials from Khamdong, Rakdong Tintek, Martam, Ranka, and Nandok Blocks presenting updates on their respective works. Mr Sonam Gyatso Bhutia, DPO Zilla requested officials to submit the final JJM report in the next meeting. The DC further enquired about the availability and functionality of drinking water and sanitation facilities, emphasising their critical role in public health.
Another key discussion point was the operation of Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) across Gangtok District. The District Collector directed the BDO of Martam to conduct field visits to all CSCs to assess their functioning. Additionally, he instructed the concerned team to ensure placement of proper signages in prominent locations for better accessibility.
The significant focus of the meeting was the Dhara Vikas project, a pilot initiative aimed at water conservation and rejuvenation in the Gangtok District. The District Collector took direct oversight of the project, stressing its importance in tackling water scarcity and promoting environmental sustainability. To advance the project, he directed SDM Rabdang to convene a separate meeting and provide a detailed briefing on the way forward.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to strengthening water and sanitation initiatives while integrating climate resilience efforts through projects like Dhara Vikas.
