Cross Country Run Organised to Mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
Gangtok, October 31 (IPR): The Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, organised an Inter-District Cross Country Run today to commemorate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, observed in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his contribution to national unity and integration.
The competition featured Under-14 and Under-17 categories for boys and girls, with participants in the Under-14 category competing in a 3-km race and those in the Under-17 category covering 5 km.
The event was graced by Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Ms Yangchen D Tamang, along with Directors Mr Rajiv Roka and Dr R.B. Biswakarma along with officers and officials of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department.
In the Under-14 boys’ category, Soreng District emerged as champions, followed by Pakyong and Mangan in the runner-up positions. Soreng also claimed the top position in the Under-14 girls’ category, with Namchi and Pakyong securing the second and third positions, respectively.
In the Under-17 boys’ category, Mangan secured first place, while Soreng and Namchi finished second and third, respectively. In the Under-17 girls’ category, Gyalshing emerged as champions, followed by Soreng in second place and Namchi in third.
The winners were awarded trophies, certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their performances.
The event underscored the importance of sports in promoting unity, discipline, fitness and camaraderie among young people, while fostering the spirit of national integration.
