Coordination Meeting on Essential Supplies Management in Pakyong

Date: 01-Apr-2026
Pakyong, April 1 (IPR): A coordination meeting on Essential Supplies Management for Pakyong District was held today at the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Pakyong.
The meeting was chaired by District Collector, Pakyong, Mr Rohan Agawane, accompanied by Sr Superintendent of Police, Pakyong, Ms Paru Ruchal and Additional District Collector, Pakyong, Mr Pulkit.
The meeting reviewed the availability, storage, and distribution of essential commodities across the district and emphasised strengthening preparedness and coordination among all concerned departments to ensure smooth and uninterrupted supply, particularly during emergency situations. Deliberations were also held on improving supply chain mechanisms and enhancing contingency preparedness.
Discussions covered both demand and supply aspects of LPG management. On the supply side, LPG distributors highlighted the need to streamline the distribution system. While there is no shortage of LPG, challenges in delivery were noted due to limited consumer awareness of the OTP-based system and network connectivity issues in remote areas. It was further shared that deliveries are strictly based on online booking and OTP authentication as per oil company guidelines, which at times results in delays. The importance of proper consumer verification, return of empty cylinders and maintaining transparency in the delivery process was also emphasised.
Also, concerns regarding multiple or inactive LPG connections were reviewed, with emphasis on proper verification and updating of consumer records to ensure equitable distribution. Protocols to be followed during emergency situations were also discussed.
In concluding remarks, District Collector, in line with directions from the State-level coordination meeting, advised that households, particularly in rural areas, be encouraged to adopt alternative cooking methods such as traditional chulhas wherever feasible to reduce pressure on LPG supply. He further directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Panchayats to undertake awareness initiatives and suggested that local-level committees may be formed to support this effort.
He also underscored the need to streamline the LPG distribution system and directed all LPG godowns to ensure proper and transparent distribution. He further informed that surprise inspections will be conducted by teams constituted by the District Administration to verify stock positions, compliance measures and the display of stock and price details.
District Collector also stressed that commercial establishments must use commercial LPG cylinders only and refrain from using domestic cylinders. He clarified that no additional allocation will be made for functions or events and priority will be given to household consumption, along with essential sectors such as educational institutions and healthcare services.
As a temporary measure, in rural areas, the use of alternative fuel options such as kerosene and traditional chulhas was encouraged to ease the burden on LPG supply.
He further called for coordinated efforts among all line departments and stakeholders, along with enhanced public awareness, to ensure efficient and uninterrupted supply of essential commodities across the district.
At the outset, the Additional District Collector, Pakyong, Mr Pulkit, briefed the officials on the meeting agenda, highlighting key priorities and stressing the need for coordinated efforts, regular monitoring, and prompt follow-up to ensure effective outcomes.
District Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Officer (DCSCO), Pakyong, Mr Bhim Pradhan, presented a detailed overview of the status of civil supplies, including LPG and petroleum products in the district. He informed that there is no shortage of essential food items such as rice, pulses, and edible oils. While LPG supply is slightly constrained, nearly 80% of the demand is being met, and the overall situation remains under control with no cause for panic.
It is also informed that a control room has been set up at the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), DAC Pakyong, to address any queries or issues related to essential supplies. The contact number for the same is 03592-200024.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector (HQ), Pakyong, Mr Sabindra Rai; SDM (HQ), Mr Thendup Lepcha; SDM, Pakyong, Mr NK Bhandari; SDM, Rongli, Mr Suren Kr Pradhan; SDM, Rangpo, Mr Sujata Subba along with Head of Offices, officials, and staff from various line departments.
