Connect to Earth’ Plantation Drive Launched in Namchi District

Date: 11-Aug-2025
Namchi, 11 August (IPR): The inaugural edition of the ‘Connect to Earth’ plantation drive commenced today in Namchi district, marking a significant step towards transforming fallow and barren land into productive agricultural zones.
This environmentally focused initiative has been organised by the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Namchi, in collaboration with the Agriculture and Horticulture Department.
The drive aligns with the vision of the Chief Minister of Sikkim Mr Prem Singh Tamang to promote sustainable land use and ecological balance across the state.
As part of the plantation drive, various fruit-bearing trees including guava, pomelo, jackfruit, custard apple, and banana were planted across a 0.6-hectare area at Turung Agriculture Farm. These saplings were procured from the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru, ensuring quality planting material for long-term productivity.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from District Collector Ms Anupa Tamling Namchi, Additional District Collector (HQ) Mr Subash Ghimiray as well as officers from DAC and other line departments. Their collective involvement reflects a shared commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture.
