Concluding Day of Temi Tea Autumn Festival
Namchi, November 28th (IPR): Chief Minister Shri. Prem Singh Tamang attended the concluding day of Temi Tea Autumn Festival, 2021 themed 'Vocal for Locals' at Temi Tea Garden, today. Present amongst others were Speaker SLA, Shri. L.B. Das, Area MLA cum Tourism Minister Shri. B. S. Panth, IPR Minister Shri. L. N. Sharma, MLA's, Advisors, Chairpersons, Temi Tea Estate Managing Director M. Ravi Kumar, Panchayat, other dignitaries and public at large.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended his greetings on the Festival and urged everyone to enjoy while keeping the protocol laid by the State Government for COVID-19 in mind. He also acknowledged the assistance of the managing committee, who successfully conducted the festival. He also said that this festival needs to grow popular and renowned, domestically as well as internationally as it is being organised at Temi, which is one of the most picturesque places in Sikkim and is capable of producing organic tea leaves. He added that this type of festival will give impetus in engaging local businesses by putting up various types of tourist-attracting amenities from which they can also earn a livelihood. Apart from temi tea, this place also boasts of lush Cherry trees, which gives a stunning visual delight especially for locals as well as tourists. He further added that these trees appeal should be utilised by the festival organizers in attracting more tourists and also making this Temi Tea Festival one of the sought after festivals in the country.
He also spoke about how Temi Tea Garden faced challenges at the peak of the pandemic impacting the production of the tea and said that the State Government has and will always provide assistance to augment the production of tea leaves and also for the betterment of the factory employees.
Speaking on the education sector, the Chief Minister said that the foundation stone for the upcoming Khanchendzonga State University at Temi will be held soon. The establishment of this university will aid a myriad of local people to gain employment, quality education amongst many other great opportunities.
Further, he also reiterated that the National Medical Commission has approved 50 MBBS seats in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) for Sikkimese students, annually. These 50 seats will be free of cost for students who top NEET exams and the State Government will pay all related expenses of the course, he added. In this regard, the Chief Minister said that education is one of the topmost priorities of the State Government and they will always help students with their educational requirements.
Area MLA cum Minister Shri. B. S. Panth in his address spoke about the importance of the festival and its theme, which was focused primarily on the locals of the area and their business ventures to uplift their enterprise. He also listed down various developmental works that the State Government has done in the area which are soon to be constructed Khanchendzonga State University at Temi, road upgradation, construction of SGAY houses and many other projects, which has been framed for the advantage of the area and its locals.
During the course of the programme, the Chief Minister launched various products from Temi Tea Garden, namely, Silver Tea, Black and Green dip bag tea's. Besides the tea, he also introduced Tapioca Chips, which has been developed by a local Self-Help Group and is being marketed by Temi Tea
