Collaboration and Growth: Fish Farmers Cooperative Society Revived in Namcheybong GPU

In a move to strengthen local fisheries and promote sustainable development, the Fish Farmers Cooperative Society of Namcheybong GPU was formally revived today in a programme held at Naibutar, Namcheybong, Pakyong. The society, originally established in 2013, had remained inactive for several years before being officially reactivated in the presence of key officials and cooperative members.
The revival event was attended by officials from the Fisheries Department, the Cooperation Department, and around 30 cooperative members.
Mrs. Mukhia proposed the establishment of a fish feed mill to address the prevailing issue of fish feed shortages in the state. She noted that such an initiative would boost farmers’ productivity and support the expansion of the fisheries sector. She further encouraged stakeholders to embrace collaborative efforts and aim for mass production to ensure long-term sustainability.
Likewise Ms Mukhia, stressed the significance of cooperative societies in accessing government schemes and scaling up fish farming ventures.
Highlighting government support, Mrs Mukhia informed that newly formed fisheries cooperatives would be eligible for a corpus fund of Rs. 5 lakhs from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) to aid in operations and development.
Cooperative Inspector Mr Bijay Sharma from the Cooperation Department also addressed the gathering, shedding light on the core principles of cooperatives and the wide array of opportunities available through government-led cooperative initiatives. He encouraged the members to seize these opportunities for collective growth.
The programme also saw the formation of a new executive body to lead the cooperative society. The event concluded with meaningful discussions aimed at driving the fisheries sector forward through unity and cooperation.
Officials from both the Fisheries and Cooperation Departments were present to show their support for this important step toward rural development and self-reliance.
