Closing Ceremony for "World Toilet Day" Campaign held at DAC Soreng

The closing ceremony of “The World Toilet Day Campaign”, organised by the District Water and Sanitation Mission Committee, was held today in the Office of District Collector (Soreng) cum Chairperson of the (DWSM) Committee, Mr Dhiraj Subedi.
Present during the programme were Mr DR Bista ADC Soreng, Mr Gaayas Pega ADC Development, Dr Kishore Thapa Additional Director AH&VS, Ms Pramila Gurung BDO (Baiguney), Officers, Officials and Awardees.
The DC addressed the gathering by welcoming every one present, and then intimated the trajectory of the District Water and Sanitation Mission committee along with the focus on "World Toilet Day" with the objective of making safer and accessible toilets. He stated the committee was first formed as Water and Sanitation Committee which was later revised to (DWSM) committee and also how the committee is now responsible for not just water works but also sanitation. He emphasized on the fact that toilets are a basic human right, which is also set to become a fundamental right nearing the future. Thereon he commended the participation of the awardees and the efforts put in by the members.
The ADC (development) Mr Gaayas Pega briefed the gathering by welcoming and thanking the chair persons and the members present, also acknowledging the efforts made by the members for the contribution in the campaign. He intimated the importance of the celebration of the World Toilet Day and of the state being an open defecation free state which in itself is a progress and yet undergoing transformation.
He highlighted the measures taken for waste and sanitation management carried out throughout the district and which still is ongoing. Further, he briefed on the management of the different kinds of waste and the measures to be taken to mitigate the contamination of water bodies and surrounding localities with precautions, such as the segregation of dry and wet waste and to inculcate the use of the triple R’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, using of compost pits and lastly dumping only dry waste for garbage.
Earlier in the commencement of the program Mr KB Subba (Deputy Director) briefed the gathering, of the overview of the campaign including its objective along with the review of the functioning and maintenance of the toilet facilities also stating the necessary facilities made available in them.
The 'Best performing Community Sanitary Complex (CSC)' and 'Individual Household Latrine (IHHL)' was awarded by the DC-cum-Chairman (DWSM) to Ms Sujata Rai (Central Zoom Ward No.03) and Mr Tula Ram Chettri (26 Karthok Bojek GPU Ward No. 03) respectively.
