Clean public places campaign
Intensified Cleaning of Mangan Parking Plaza/Taxi Stand in Collaboration with Taxi Associations
Mangan, September 23: Under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, Mangan Nagar Panchayat undertook an intensified cleaning and sanitation drive at the Mangan Parking Plaza/Taxi Stand, with active participation and cooperation from the local taxi associations.
The programme was conducted with the participation of the Mangan Local Taxi Drivers Association and the Mangan–Gangtok Service Association, whose members actively supported the cleanliness drive and contributed towards maintaining the Parking Plaza as a clean and hygienic public transport facility.
The Mangan Parking Plaza is an important public transport facility comprising four floors, catering to taxi services connecting Mangan with various destinations within the town, rural areas and other districts. Considering its high public footfall and importance as a major transport hub, the cleanliness of the premises was accorded special attention.
The programme was led by the Hon’ble Board of Councillors, Mangan Nagar Panchayat, in the presence of the Municipal Executive Officer (MEO), Mangan Nagar Panchayat, along with the officers, field staff and sanitation personnel of the Nagar Panchayat.
As part of the drive, intensive cleaning of all four floors, stairways and associated areas of the Parking Plaza was undertaken using high-pressure water jets, enabling the effective removal of accumulated dust, dirt and other contaminants from the premises. The participating taxi associations extended their cooperation and active support throughout the cleaning activity.
The drive resulted in a thorough transformation of the Parking Plaza into a visibly cleaner, more hygienic and well-maintained public space. The participation of the taxi associations also reinforced the message that cleanliness of public places is a shared responsibility of the Urban Local Body, service providers, associations and the community.
The initiative under Swachhata Hi Seva reflects Mangan Nagar Panchayat’s continued commitment towards maintaining clean, hygienic and dignified public spaces while encouraging active participation of local stakeholders in sustainable cleanliness practices.
