Chief Secretary Chairs Review Meeting on Operational Readiness of Sevok–Rangpo Railway Line
Gangtok, March 6 (IPR): The Chief Secretary, Mr R. Telang, chaired a meeting on the operational readiness of the Sevok-Rangpo Railway Line at the Teesta Lounge in Tashiling Secretariat today.
The meeting was attended by Senior State government officials and representatives from the NorthEast Frontier Railways.
A presentation detailing the operational readiness of the Sevoke Rangpo Railway Line, with a special focus on Passenger Services, Freight Logistics, and Rail-Road Integration, was presented by Mr MD Bhutia, Special Secretary, Transport Department, starting the proceedings of the meeting.
During the course of the discussion, Mr R Telang, Chief Secretary, suggested an integrated plan for the smooth transfer of passengers from Sikkim to Bagdogra Airport, keeping in view the heavy footfall of tourists the State receives using the upcoming railway line.
He further specified the importance of Sikkim Nationalised Transport in the Sikkimese context and directed the creation of a plan for better coordination between SNT and Indian Railways once operations begin, seeking suggestions for facilitation of better logistics for both goods and passengers through the existing framework of SNT.
The Chief Secretary further deliberated on how IRCTC can work in tandem with the state government for increasing the tourist footfall and providing a better and smoother Sikkimese experience.
Mr Senthil K, DIG(RPF) briefed the meeting on the workings of Railway Protection Force and the security aspects of the upcoming railway line.
The meeting further held discussions on the scope of work and operational aspects of the railway project, expected to be operational by December 2027.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Home Department, Mr Tenzing T Kaleon, Special Secretary, Transport Department, Mr MD Bhutia, PCE-cum-General Manager, Transport Department, Mr Dukpa Sherpa, Commissioner, State GST, Mr Manoj Rai and Additional Chief Engineer, Transport Department, Mr Binay Pradhan. Mr Pulkit ADC Pakyong joined the meeting virtually.
Railway officials present included Mr Hitendra Goyal, CAO/Con/2/NFR, Mr Mohit Joshi, DOM/SC/APDJ, Mr Pinku Singh, Dy CE/Con/NJP, Mr Sanjeev Kumar, CE/Con/NFR, Mr Mohinder Singh, Advisor, IRCON and Mr Senthil K DIG-cum-Chief Security Commissioner, RPF.
