Chief Secretary Chairs Meeting on Ambedkar Jayanti Celebrations in Sikkim
Gangtok, March 17 (IPR): A meeting to discuss the state-level celebration of the 135th Birth Anniversary of B R Ambedkar, to be observed on April 14, was held today at the Conference Hall of Tashiling Secretariat, Gangtok.
The meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Mr R Telang.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasised the need for effective coordination among all concerned departments to ensure the successful conduct of the event. Heads of various line departments also put forward their suggestions and recommendations.
The event flow of the programme prepared by the Social Welfare Department was also discussed in detail.
Chairperson of the Sikkim Scheduled Caste Welfare Board, Mr Shekhar Sewa, expressed sincere appreciation to the concerned officials, including police authorities, for their continued support and cooperation.
He stated that the programme has been designed to maintain a balanced approach by recognising not only academic excellence but also contributions in the social sector. Individuals from diverse fields such as social work, leadership, and education will be identified and honoured, with a focus on selecting a few deserving candidates.
He further informed that approximately five student toppers have been identified this year, and their inclusion in the programme is also being considered.
